Whether you’re applying for a job or trying to start a business, a clearance from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is an essential tool for employers or other background checking personnel. This clearance will give basic information like your name, current address, date of birth, the purpose for the request, and whether or not you have any criminal cases filed against you in the Philippines.
Getting an NBI clearance used to be a long process that can take hours. Now, the government has definitely taken steps to make it more convenient. There is now an online application system for appointment booking that removes hours of waiting in long lines. It also makes it even easier to apply for an NBI clearance renewal because the process is fully online.

Before we get to the step-by-step guide, here are a few things you need to know about the NBI online system:
- The new system is called NBI Quick Clearance and your NBI clearance is delivered straight to your address.
- The NBI Clearance Quick Renewal is only available to applicants who have their NBI clearance issued between 2014 to the present and those with NBI clearance ID numbers found in the website.
- The NBI Clearance Quick Renewal is NOT available to new applicants.
How to Apply for NBI Clearance Quick Renewal
Step 1: Go to https://clearance.nbi.gov.ph then click on the “NBI Clearance Quick Renewal” button
Step 2: Enter your NBI ID Number in the pop up then click “VERIFY”
If you encounter an error stating “ The system cannot find the given NBI ID Number”, this means that the NBI Clearance Quick Renewal is not available for you. In this case, you can still apply for an NBI clearance online. While this does require a personal appearance, appointment booking is easy and the process is less stressful than the previous years.
Step 3: On the next screen, verify that the information like your first name, last name, and the previous photo taken is correct. You would also need to enter the following information:
- Purpose
- Purpose Detail
- Province
- City or Municipality
- Barangay
- Street, unit, Bldg/Village
- Zip Code
Step 4: Enter your date of birth, and select your payment option: ECPay, Multipay, or Bayad Center
Ignore the Amount or fees for now. This will change after you enter the delivery address. Delivery charges vary depending on your locality. You may also receive additional charges based on the payment option you choose
Step 5: Read the directions in the pop up regarding payments and click ‘NEXT” then take note of the new fees including delivery and click “PROCEED” Take note of your NBI Clearance Reference Number.
Step 6: Pay and wait for your NBI Clearance to be delivered!
