Filipino women win when it comes to financial inclusion
The UN G20 Summit makes financial inclusion a global priority, with noted emphasis on bringing access to women. For most of the world, women have less access to financial services than men. But in the Philippines, the case is refreshingly different:
The World Bank’s Global Findex Report shows that more women than men have availed of formal financial services (such as savings, loans, and credit at from financial institutions). The Philippines joins Indonesia and Cambodia in claiming these female-favoring statistics. While the overall rate of financial inclusion for the country is still low, we’re proud to see that women have as much opportunity to prosper as men.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Statistics Authority reports in their latest survey (2015) that there are more female OFWs than male. Iba talaga ang Pinay!
